Final Results

GLENVIEW, Ill. -- The Purdue men's golf team shot a final-round, 14-over par 302 to slip to seventh place at the Windon Memorial Classic which concluded this afternoon at North Shore Country Club.

The Boilermakers were in sixth after each of the first two rounds, but struggled down the stretch in windy conditions to finish the event at 22-over par 886 (289-295-302). Florida won the event with a score of 3-under par 861, just seven shots ahead of Eastern Michigan (868). Michigan (870), Northwestern (873), UC Davis (881) and Princeton (885) rounded out the top six.

Purdue played this week without one of its top players in senior Fernando Barco, who was representing Peru in the World Amateur Team Championships. Barco finished T-45th (out of 210 golfers) in the event that concluded Saturday.

Leading Purdue in the third round was sophomore Jarle Volden, who turned in his best round of the tournament with a 1-under par 71 to finish tied for 33rd at 9-over par 225 (77-77-71). Volden had three birdies in his first six holes on the back nine to finish with his second round of even-par or better this year.

Junior Brian Carlson was Purdue's top overall finisher, placing T-14th at 3-over par 219 (73-71-75). The event's defending champion birdied his first two holes, but then bogeyed and double-bogeyed Nos. 3 and 4 to fall to 1-over par for his round. He dropped to 4-over par for his round with a bogey on No. 13, before birdieing No. 15 for his 75.

Senior Austin Eoff struggled in the final round, finishing the tournament in a 24th place-tie at 6-over par 222 (69-73-80). Eoff couldn't get anything going in the final round, playing the back nine in 5-over par and registering just one birdie on the day.

Sophomore Timmy Hildebrand tied with Volden for 33rd place after shooting a 7-over par 79 today for a 54-hole total of 225 (72-74-79). Hildebrand was just 1-over par through 12 holes, before a pair of late triple-bogeys dropped him out of the top 20.

Freshman Thomas Lewis, competing in his first collegiate event, finished T-54th at 14-over par 230 (75-78-77). He was 1-over par through 12 holes today, playing the last six holes in 4-over par.

As a group, Purdue played the last six holes in a combined 14-over par. It played the first 12 holes in a combined 8-over par.

Purdue will be off until the prestigious Tavistock Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Florida, on Oct. 16-18. The event is one of the top tournaments in the country.
