EUGENE, Ore. -- The Purdue men's golf team's struggles in the NCAA Championships continued during Saturday's second round as the Boilermakers shot a 25-over par 305 to remain in 30th place after 36 holes.

The Boilermakers could make up no ground on the leaders and will conclude their season in the third round on Sunday, barring something drastic. Purdue currently sits at 44-over par 604 (299-305) and are 29 shots behind 15th-place teams Kentucky, Auburn, Georgia, Clemson and San Diego State. The top-15 teams after tomorrow's third round will play a fourth round on Monday for the right to advance to match play beginning on Tuesday.

Vanderbilt leads the field at 3-over par 563 (283-280), while Oregon, playing on its home course, and Alabama were the lone teams to shoot under-par in the second round. In fact, out of 60 team rounds played, the rounds by Oregon and Alabama today were the only sub-par rounds in the tournament so far.

Under nearly-perfect conditions today, the Eugene Country Club's greens firmed up and rolled as fast as pool tables as the tournament scoring average is 72.93, 2.93 strokes above par.

Purdue recorded no birdies during its opening nine holes (the back nine) and finished with just seven birdies, four of them coming by Stuart Macdonald.

Freshman Jarle Volden paced the Boilermakers in the second round with a 4-over par 74 and is tied for 133rd after two rounds at 12-over par 152 (78-74). Volden had 12 pars and recorded his lone birdie on the par-5 fourth hole, which offset a bogey on No. 3.

Sophomore Brian Carlson tallied his second straight round of 6-over par 76 and is tied with Volden in 133rd place at 12-over par 152 (76-76). Carlson registered no birdies on the day and finished each nine with bogeys on three of the last five holes.

Austin Eoff recorded a 7-over par 77 and is tied for 150th at 15-over par 155 (78-77). Eoff bogeyed three of his first five holes, then double-bogeyed the par-5 first hole. He finished his round birdie-par to carry some momentum into tomorrow.

Stuart Macdonald had a whirlwind round en route to a 78 and is now in 119th place at 10-over par 150 (72-78). Macdonald was 10-over par through 12 holes, before recording birdies on four of his last six holes to finish with a 78. Macdonald is fourth in the tournament field in birdies (9).

Fernando Barco couldn't get it going at all on Saturday, playing the opening 10 holes in 8-over par and finishing with a 10-over par 80. Barco is now in 140th place at 13-over par 153 (73-80).

Purdue will tee off hole No. 10 in Sunday's third round, starting at 4:50 p.m. ET / 1:50 p.m. PT, and will be paired with Baylor and UAB.
