TULSA, Okla. --
Purdue's Gergely Madarasz's season came to an end in the Round of 64 at the NCAA Tennis Championships on Wednesday. Rain forced the No. 50 Boilermakers' match against Martin Redlicki of UCLA to be played indoors at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The 38th-ranked Bruin defeated Madarasz in straight sets to move into the Round of 32 and closed the door on Madarasz's stellar season.

The first set was all Redlicki, taking the first set 6-2. Facing a must-win situation, Madarasz rallied for a tightly contested second set. Knotted at 6-6, the two went into a seven-point tiebreaker. The reigning ITA Rookie of the Year won the breaker 7-3 to take the set and the match 6-2, 7-6 (3). The win was his 30th of the season as he moves into Thursday's Round of 32.

Madarasz's first semester of collegiate competition comes to a close at 20-4. His NCAA appearance was just the fifth in program history as he was the third overall qualifier. The unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection was the Boilermakers' leader in spring wins with 16 of those coming in straight sets.
