WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Shane Bryant gave Purdue baseball another quality start, surrendering just one earned run over 6 2/3 innings, but No. 25 Minnesota limited the Boilermakers to four hits to win a 3-0 pitcher's duel Sunday afternoon at Alexander Field.

The Gophers' Toby Anderson needed only 108 pitches to work a complete-game shutout, the junior's second complete game of the season. He did not issue a walk and did not allow a runner to advance past first base until Alec Olund doubled with one out in the eighth inning.

Meanwhile, Bryant threw 129 pitches while putting together his second straight quality start. The senior labored early in his outing, but found a groove beginning with the fourth inning. He retired 12 consecutive batters from the third through seventh innings, working three consecutive 1-2-3 frames in the process. He also retired Minnesota (33-15, 15-5 B1G) in order in the top of the second. Bryant joined Gavin Downs as the only Boilermakers to record back-to-back quality starts this year.

Anderson did not allow more than one base runner in any inning, working five 1-2-3 frames. Olund also singled to lead off the third inning but was erased by a 5-4-3 double play. Anderson finished with five strikeouts, relying on Minnesota's Big Ten-leading defense behind him. From the final out of the second inning through the end of the seventh, all 18 Purdue hitters to come to the plate put the ball in play.

Dan Motl came through with the key hits for the Gophers, both with two outs. His double in the third inning turned into a run after Bryant walked the next two batters and then unleashed an 0-2 wild pitch behind cleanup man Austin Athmann, allowing Motl to score the game's first run. After a two-out error extended the seventh inning, Motl came through with a two-run single through the right side. Motl finished the series 5-for-15 with 4 RBI and 5 runs scored.

Kyle Wood singled in the fourth inning to record a hit in every game of a weekend series for the second weekend in a row and fifth time this season. He finished the series 5-for-13.

Purdue (7-42, 2-22 B1G) returns to action Tuesday when it closes out midweek play with a 6:30 p.m. game against IPFW at Kokomo Municipal Stadium in Kokomo, Indiana. The Boilermakers played a three-game series against Ohio at Kokomo Municipal Stadium back in mid-March.
