VALPARAISO, Ind. -- Valparaiso scored 12 of its 13 runs in two big innings, riding the extended rallies to a 13-10 victory vs. Purdue baseball in a Wednesday afternoon slugfest.

Daniel Sander finished the day 5-for-5 with three doubles and five RBI, recording the first five-hit game by a Boilermaker since current big leaguer Kevin Plawecki accomplished the feat in March 2011. The Crusaders' Daniel Delaney hit a pair of three-run homers. The two designated hitters were a combined 8-for-10 with 17 total bases, 11 RBI and four runs scored.

Valparaiso (21-25) ended Purdue's seven-game win streak in the series that dated back to 2006. The Boilermakers (7-39) held leads of 5-1 and 10-6, but the Crusaders scored five times in the third inning and seven times in the sixth to overcome the four-run deficits.

Purdue racked up 15 of its 17 hits over the first six innings, scoring multiple runs in four of those frames. Coincidentally, the bats went silent for both teams after Delaney's second three-run homer. Seventeen of the game's final 20 batters were retired beginning with the second out of the bottom of the sixth. Sidearmer Bryce Yoder kept the momentum on the home team's side by retiring six of the seven batters he faced over two innings of one-hit relief, taking the mound after Valpo took its 13-10 lead.

Sander joined Brett Carlson as Boilermakers with a three-double game this season. Prior to Carlson's three-double effort last month at Maryland, a Purdue player had not recorded three doubles in a game since Plawecki in May 2011. Sander joined Kyle Johnson (two) as Boilermakers with a five-RBI game this season. Sander entered the day with no extra-base hits and three RBI in 38 at-bats this season. However, he's 9-for-14 over the last nine games.

Jack Picchiotti singled in three consecutive at-bats over the middle innings, driving in a pair of runs while making his first start behind the plate since April 2. The senior stayed in the game despite losing a tooth on a head first slide into second on a stolen base attempt in the top of the sixth inning.

Valparaiso sent 11 men to the plate in its seven-run sixth inning, recording six hits to go along with the back-to-back walks that ignited the rally. Purdue used three pitchers in the frame.

Sander delivered a two-out, two-run double in the first inning and a two-run single in the top of the third. Nick Dalesandro scored on both hits after singling in front of Sander on both occasions, extending his hitting streak to nine straight games. Ted Snidanko had an RBI double in the fifth inning and Sander doubled home another run in the top of the sixth.

The Boilermakers return to action Friday when they begin a Big Ten Conference series against No. 25 Minnesota, which visits West Lafayette for the first time since April 2010. First pitch Friday is set for 7 p.m.
