WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- In the regular season finale, the Purdue men's tennis team finally got to play outside at the Schwartz Tennis Center, upsetting No. 53 Wisconsin 4-0 on Sunday. The 59th-ranked Boilermakers (16-9, 5-6 B1G) registered their fourth win over a ranked opponent, gaining momentum for the postseason.

"Always good to win in the conference; the Big Ten is a tough one," Purdue head men's tennis coach Pawel Gajdzik said. "This team was higher ranked than us and [the win] sent the message to our players that we are on the right path and getting better as the season progresses. Obviously we also pick up a little momentum going into the conference tournament."

Both teams went into doubles play hungry for the advantage. The Badgers' top duo of Lamar Remy and Josef Dodridge defeated Dominik Sochurek and Benjamin Ugarte 6-1.

To even out the stakes, Purdue's Renan Hanayama and Mateus Silva topped Darius Mackenzie and John Zordaniv 6-4 in Silva's final doubles contest at home.

The point rested on the outcome of a tightly contested match at No. 2. Facing a 5-2 deficit, Purdue's duo of Gergely Madarasz and Ricky Medinilla battled back to tie Chema Carranza and Jakhongir Jalalov at 5-5. The redshirt sophomore and junior pair took the next two games for the set at 7-5 and captured the doubles point for the Boilermakers.

"I think our resilience as a team added to what was great," Gajdzik said. "We got a little behind in doubles, but the momentum was on our side and the win was on our side as well. No. 2 doubles did a great job closing the match and No. 3 was solid."

Building on the momentum from doubles, Purdue took the first set in four of the six singles matches. No. 44 Madarasz rolled past Dodridge 6-3, 6-1 at the top of the line up for his 16th straight-set victory.

Ugarte gave the Boilermakers a 3-0 advantage thanks to a dominating 6-2, 6-1 outing in the No. 2 spot vs. Remy. The 84th-ranked redshirt junior played his first match to completion since March 25, a span of six duals.

Medinilla's 6-2, 6-3 showing over Carranza at the No. 3 position clinched his career-best 24th win (fall and spring combined), capping off the match for Purdue.

The Big Ten Tournament awaits the Boilermakers. They will travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota, for the four-day tournament, which is set to get underway Thursday. The tournament bracket is expected to be released Sunday or Monday.
