NEWBURGH, Ind. ââ'¬" The No. 32-ranked Purdue men's golf team recorded the fourth-best round of the day, but fell to sixth place after 36 holes at the Big Ten Championships at Victoria National Golf Club.

The Boilermakers fired their second straight round of 3-over par 291 and find themselves in sixth place with a two-day total of 6-over par 582 (291-291).

Iowa surged into first with an outstanding round of 7-under par 281 to lead at 10-under par 566. Maryland is second at 3-under par 573, while first-round leader Illinois fell to third at 2-under par 574. Michigan State and Michigan are tied for fourth at 3-over par 579.

"We got off to a great start today through 11 holes and then finished very poorly," head coach Rob Bradley said. "We are a team that is capable of shooting some really low rounds. We are not out of this and we obviously going to need to play well on Sunday to give ourselves a chance. We have the ability and have team that can do that."

The Boilermakers were as low as 4-under par through the tournament through 11 holes on Saturday, but the Purdue five played the final seven holes in a cumulative 11-over par, registering just two birdies during that stretch.

Austin Eoff and Fernando Barco lead the Boilermakers at even-par 144, good for a tie for 13th. Eoff led the Boilermakers in the second round with a 1-under par 71 following his opening-round 73. Eoff blistered the front nine in 3-under par 33, but bogeyed holes 14 and 16 to fall back to 1-under par for his round and out of the top 10.

Barco, who was tied for third after yesterday's round, actually surged to the lead through his front nine after shooting a 2-under par 34 on the opening nine holes. But he played the back nine in 5-over par 41 which included a double-bogey on the finishing hole for a 3-over par 75 and an even-par 144 through two rounds.

Brian Carlson is tied for 19th after a second-round 73 to sit at 1-over par 145 (72-73) through 36 holes. Carlson was 1-under par through 10 holes, but suffered bogeys on Nos. 11 and 14 to fall to 19th place overall.

Freshman Jarle Volden is tied for 37th at 6-over par 150 (77-73). Volden had a strong round, but bogeys on his final two holes sent him over par for his round.

Senior Stuart Macdonald is tied for 40th at 7-over par 151 (77-74). Macdonald was even-par through 13 holes, but suffered a double-bogey on No. 14 to drop him to 2-over par for his round where he remained.

For the second straight round, Purdue will be paired with Michigan and Michigan State and will tee off the final round off hole No. 1 at 9 a.m. ET / 8 a.m. CT. Purdue is searching for its first Big Ten title since 1981.
