WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The No. 70 Purdue women's tennis team earned its third consecutive conference win of the season in a 5-2 victory over Penn State on Friday outdoors at the Schwartz Tennis Center. The Boilermakers extended their record at home to 9-2 as they improved to 12-11, 5-5 Big Ten.

"I think it's always good to finish our season strong," Purdue head women's tennis coach Laura Glitz said. "We've been up and down throughout the season and we've talked about how important it is to finish Big Ten season on a high note. I was glad to see Claudia [Escribens] get two wins on her senior day as well, that's always important."

In doubles action, the Boilermakers jumped out in front thanks to a 6-0 victory at the No. 3 position from Claudia Escribens and Natalia Davila. With their victory, the duo has won nine of their last 15 matches. Purdue clinched the doubles point after its 46th-ranked team of Andjela Djokovic and Nicole Robinson defeated duo of Kimberley Surin and Devan McCluskey 6-2.

With her family in the stands watching her on her senior day, Escribens got the Boilermakers started in singles with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 6 position over Kelly Mengel of Penn State.

"They [my family] live six hours away, so they're sometimes here, but not a lot though," Escribens said. "I'm lucky that they get to watch me play more than others since everyone's international on this team. This was probably the last time they're going to get to see me play and it was nice to finish as efficiently as I did with both singles and doubles."

The Nittany Lions would later answer with a 6-3, 6-1 win from their No. 2 player Devan McCluskey over Purdue's Krisztina Kapitany. Djokovic extended the Boilermakers' lead to 3-1 after claiming a victory at the No. 3 position against Jacqueline Zuhse 7-5, 6-4.

After falling in the first set 6-4 to Liyin Xu of Penn State, Marta Ruedas-Burgos bounced back to take the last two sets 7-5, 6-3 to earn the win for the Boilermakers.

PSU put its second point on the board with Kimberley Surin's 1-6, 7-6 (3), 6-1 match vs. Robinson at the at the top of the lineup.

Davila closed out the contest in a marathon match, defeating Katherine Whiteaway 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (10). The win was her 13th of her junior spring campaign, while improving to 5-2 in Big Ten action at No. 4.

Purdue returns to the Schwartz Tennis Center on Sunday for its regular season finale. The Boilermakers will play host to No. 6 Ohio State in a match scheduled for a 2 p.m. ET start.
