BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ââ'¬" The Purdue women's tennis team snapped its recent losing skid by blasting in-state rival and No. 60 Indiana 6-1 at the IU Tennis Center on Saturday. The win evened the Boilermakers' record at 9-9 as they picked up their second win in Big Ten play and their third over a ranked opponent this season. In defeating the Hoosiers (13-6, 3-2 B1G), Purdue took a two-point lead in the Indiana National Guard Governor's Cup at 8-6.

In doubles action, Indiana struck first with a 6-1 victory from their No. 2 team of Kim Schmider and Stephanie Smith over Krisztina Kapitany and Marta Ruedas-Burgos.

The Boilermakers took over from there.

Natalia Davila and Claudia Escribens returned to the court together for the first time since March 5 and tied the battle for the doubles point at one apiece thanks to a 6-3 decision over Danielle Wolf and Paula Gutierrez. Despite having not played together the past three dual matches, Davila and Escribens picked up where they left off to win their sixth straight match. The pair is 11-2 in spring competition and 14-5 overall, both of which are highs among the team.

The point was clinched at the top of the lineup with Andjela Djokovic and Nicole Robinson defeating Madison Appel and Sarah McLean in a back-and-forth 7-6 (7) battle.

It was all Purdue in singles. The Boilermakers rolled in straight sets at Nos. 1, 4 and 3 to secure the victory. Robinson made easy work of Appel in the top spot with a 6-2, 6-1 showing. Davila followed with her ninth win at No. 4 this spring, taking down Smith 6-4, 6-1. Credited with securing the match was Djokovic, courtesy of a 7-5, 6-1 performance over McLean.

Even though the outcome was decided, play continued. Ruedas-Burgos notched her 11th win of the spring by rallying from a first set loss to defeat Wolf 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 5 position. The Boilermakers' team leader in wins, Kapitany, pushed her record to 12-2 in dual competition with a straight-setter over Gutierrez 7-6 (4), 6-4. It was the senior's first win playing at No. 2 for Purdue.

Indiana received its only point from a retirement at No. 6.

The Boilermakers' long stretch of road dates concludes next weekend at Northwestern on April 8 and Illinois on April 10.
