- Purdue has now finished in the top four of 19-of-35 tournaments in the two-plus years under Rob Bradley following its second-place showing at the Boilermaker Invitational … prior to Bradley's arrival, Purdue needed five full years to record 18 top-four finishes.
- Purdue's 10-under par score of 854 tied its lowest 54-hole score ever shot at the Kampen Course. Purdue also shot an 854 in the 2008 event … Purdue's team score of 854 tied for the 10th-lowest team score in school history (by strokes) and was tied for the fourth-lowest score in school history in relation to par.
- Purdue had four top-10, and five top-25, finishes for the second time this year, the other coming at the Windon Memorial Classic.

- In head-to-head records, Purdue is now 21-8-0 this year against Big Ten opposition … if you take No. 2-ranked Illinois out of the mix, Purdue is 21-5-0 against Big Ten foes … the Boilermakers surpassed 100 head-to-head wins on the season, now owning a 102-27-2 record.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. ââ'¬"- The No. 33-ranked Purdue men's golf team surged in the final round, but it wasn't enough to catch No. 2-ranked Illinois, as Purdue finished second in the 13th annual Boilermaker Invitational this weekend at the Kampen Course.

The No. 33-ranked Boilermakers finished with a 10-under par 854 (284-286-284) to finish just seven shots behind the second-ranked Illini (280-277-290=847). Northwestern (-3), Kent State (+1) and Michigan State (+8) rounded out the top five.

Absolutely perfect conditions greeted the golfers all weekend and Purdue responded by placing four golfers in the top 10, five in the top 25 and finishing with the fourth-lowest score in relation to par in school history (-10). It was Purdue's highest finish in the event since winning it in 2011.

"I'm really happy with the way we competed this weekend. All five guys stayed competitive all three days and we had four guys finish in the top 10 and another in the top 25," head coach Rob Bradley said. "This will give us a lot of confidence going into the Big Ten Championships and the postseason."

Leading the charge was senior Stuart Macdonald, who finished in a fifth-place tie at 3-under par 213 (69-70-74). Playing in his final competitive round at the Kampen Course, Macdonald recorded his second top-five finish in the Boilermaker Invitational.

Sophomore Brian Carlson placed tied for seventh at 2-under par 214 (70-71-73). It was the sixth top-10 finish of the season for the Madison, Connecticut, native. Carlson was alternating birdies and bogeys, before a double-bogey on the par-3 13th hole dropped him to 2-over par. He would respond with back-to-back birdies, before a bogey on the finishing hole dropped him over par and out of the top five.

Austin Eoff and Fernando Barco each finished tied for 10th at 1-under par 215. Eoff played an outstanding round, getting as low as 4-under par on two different occasions, the last time coming on No. 15. However, he hit his tee shot into the water on the par-3 17th and settled for a double-bogey to end his round at 2-under 70.

Barco also had a sensational round with a 3-under par 69, the second-best round of the day. Barco had four birdies and just one bogey during his round, earning him his fourth top-10 finish of the season.

Freshman Jarle Volden rounded out Purdue's scoring with an even-par 72, finishing his tournament in 3-over par 219 (74-73-72), good for a 22nd-place tie. The steadily-improving rookie from Norway had two birdies, two bogeys and 14 pars in a very steady round, giving him his second straight top-25 finish.

Freshman Timmy Hildebrand, competing as an individual, also had an impressive final round, carding a 1-under par 71 to finish tied for 45th at 8-over par 224 (75-78-71). Chad Phillips was tied for 76th at 19-over par 235 (76-79-80).

Purdue will now turn its preparations to the Big Ten Championships this coming weekend in Newburgh, Indiana, at Victoria National Golf Club. The 54-hole event is slated to begin on Friday and end on Sunday.
