The match marked the fourth victory over a ranked opponent for the Boilermakers this season as they improved to 10-11 and 3-5 in the Big Ten, while Minnesota drops to 12-9 and 4-4 in the Big Ten.

"Minnesota is a good team. They beat us last year, and are just a feisty team that does a good job of making you play. I thought the girls did a good job handling that today."

The Boilermakers carried their momentum from doubles into singles action, taking the first two matches at the Nos. 1 and 4 positions. Davila struck first with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Minnesota's Jessika Mozia. Robinson followed with a win over Caroline Ryba 6-4, 6-4.

A 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 6 position from Golden Gopher Camila Vargas Gomez over Escribens got the Golden Gophers got on the board.

Kapitany clinched the match for the Boilermakers by defeating Rincon-Otero 7-6 (2), 6-4.
