BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana scored six times after a nearly two-hour lightning and rain delay, handing Purdue baseball a third straight one-run loss 7-6 in the finale of the weekend series Sunday afternoon.
The Boilermakers (4-24, 0-9 B1G) led 5-1 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh when the Hoosiers (17-13, 4-2 B1G) rallied for a five-run inning. Purdue tied it up on Harry Shipley's two-out RBI single in the top of the eighth, but a home run from Logan Sowers on a 3-0 pitch in the bottom of the frame accounted for the game-winning run.
The Boilermakers have suffered a one-run loss in each of their last four Big Ten games and six times total during their 13-game losing streak. The 13-game skid is the program's longest since also dropping 13 in a row from the end of 1973 (11) through the start of 1974 (2). Purdue lost three one-run games in a series for the first time since May 2014 at Minnesota.
Matt Frawley struck out a career-high seven over five innings of one-run ball. Jack Picchiotti and Jacson McGowan each delivered a two-run double to help the Boilermakers build a 5-1 lead going into the one hour and 54 minute lightning and rain delay that stopped the game in the top of the seventh.

Gavin Downs retired the first two batters of the bottom of the seventh, but the next seven IU batters reached base safely. The two-out rally featured four extra-base hits, Sowers' triple igniting the comeback. After a pitching change brought Tanner Andrews into the game, Brian Wilhite delivered the game-tying, two-run double down the left field line. Wilhite scored the go-ahead run moments later on a pinch-hit double from Scotty Bradley.
Shipley recorded his first RBI of the season when he came through with the two-out single to tie the game in the eighth inning. Cody Strong was able to score when the IU catcher dropped the ball while trying to apply a swipe tag.
Shipley reached base safely in all four of his plate appearances and finished the weekend with an .818 on-base percentage after recording three hits, three walks and three hit by pitch in 11 plate appearances.
Picchiotti doubled off the wall in left field, plating Alec Olund and Shipley to open the scoring in the third inning. McGowan later delivered a two-run double in the top of the sixth, the third of four straight hits in the frame. Justin Gubser and Shipley scored from first base on the opposite-field extra-base hits. Kyle Wood also drove in a run with a two-out RBI single in the third.

Purdue hit into inning-ending double plays with two men aboard in three straight frames during the middle of the game.
Frawley surrendered just four hits, striking out two batters in three of his five frames and working a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the fourth. He struck out Sowers twice. The junior also escaped a bases-loaded jam with one out in the bottom of the third.
Downs retired the first five batters he faced but could not get that elusive final out of the seventh inning. Duncan McKinnon and Wood both flew out to the warning track over the final two innings.
The Boilermakers return to action Tuesday when they open a season-long six-game homestand with a 4 p.m. midweek date vs. Eastern Michigan.
