WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- No. 57 Purdue was shut out 4-0 by No. 5 Ohio State on the Basham Courts at the Schwartz Tennis Center on Sunday. The Boilermakers moved to 13-8 and 2-5 in Big Ten play, while the Buckeyes (23-2, 7-0 B1G) blanked their seventh conference opponent in as many faced.
Purdue's pair of Matt Bouggy and Lucas Dages fell to Matt Mendez and Hugo Di Feo 6-1 at No. 3 to give Ohio State an edge towards the doubles point. The point was clinched by OSU's No. 2 team and 75th-ranked duo of Martin Joyce and Mikael Torpegaard with a 6-2 showing against Renan Hanayama and Mateus Silva.
Singles matches were only played to completion at the bottom half of the lineup, with all three matches going the Buckeyes' way in straight sets.
At No. 5, Dages was only able to take one game from Joyce in a 6-1, 6-0 loss. Mendez dealt Bouggy a double bagel at No. 6 and Ralf Steinbach closed out the contest by beating Hanayama 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4.
Purdue will head out for its final weekend twin bill of the season in its next outing. The Boilermakers will face off against Iowa at 7 p.m. ET on Friday at the Nielson Tennis Stadium in Iowa City and then trek west to Lincoln for a Sunday battle at Nebraska. First serves from the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center are set for 1 p.m.
