LAKE OCONEE, Ga. ââ'¬"- The 25th-ranked Purdue men's golf team struggled from the start in the second round of the Linger Longer Invitational, shooting a 15-over par 303 to fall to sixth place after 36 holes.
The Boilermakers recorded a second-round score of 15-over par 303 to bring their 36-hole total to 4-over par 580 (277-303). One day after shooting the best score of the tournament (277) and leading the highly-competitive field after 18 holes, Purdue tallied just 12 birdies on the day and fell five spots to sixth place.
The good news for Purdue, however, is that the Boilermakers are just three shots out of fourth place and eight shots out of third place.
No. 12-ranked Alabama leads the field at 9-under par 567 (282-285), leading 21st-ranked Virginia by three shots (279-291=570). No. 39-ranked Augusta is third at 4-under par 572 (283-289), Kennesaw State is fifth at 1-over par 577 (278-299) and No. 2-ranked Georgia is fifth at 3-over par 579 (290-289).
Junior Fernando Barco continues to lead Purdue after shooting a second-round 74 for a 36-hole total of 5-under par 139 (65-74). Barco was 1-under par for his day (8-under for the tournament) after four holes, but suffered a double-bogey on No. 5, and was forced to scramble the rest of the day. A birdie on No. 18 moved him back into third place, trailing Georgia's Lee McCoy and Virginia's Jimmy Stanger by two shots.
Freshman Jarle Volden is tied for 19th place at 1-over par 145 (69-76). At 1-over par through four holes, Volden recorded a triple-bogey on the fifth hole to fall to 4-over par for his round. He would right the ship and played the remainder of the round in even par.
Austin Eoff is tied for 27th at 3-over par 147 (69-78). Eoff was even-par through 10 holes, but played his last eight holes in 6-over par to fall out of the top 20.
Brian Carlson is tied for 44th at 6-over par 150 (75-75), while Stuart Macdonald is tied for 59th at 10-over par 154 (74-80).
Purdue will be paired with Kennesaw State and Georgia in the final round, with tee times beginning at 9:50 a.m. ET from Lake Oconee, Georgia.
