ATLANTA -- Emily Fogle earned her fifth career All-America honor while qualifying for the consolation final of the 200 breaststroke, highlighting the final day of action at the NCAA Championships for Purdue women's swimming and diving.
The Boilermakers scored in five events at the national championship meet to finish in 23rd place of the 48 scoring teams with 35 points. Mary Beth Dunnichay, Kaersten Meitz and Fogle had scoring finishes and earned All-America honors this week.
The top-25 finish at NCAAs coupled with the program's consistent academic excellence should again place women's swimming and diving in Purdue's exclusive 25/85 club, which recognizes teams that finish among the top 25 in NCAA competition with an 85 percent (or greater) graduation success rate.
Fogle closed out her collegiate career by finishing sixth in the consolation final of the 200 breast for Honorable Mention All-America accolades. She was an All-American in both breaststroke events in 2012 and 2016 along with contributing to Purdue's All-American 800 freestyle relay team as a freshman in 2011. Fogle posted a time of 2:08.24 in the prelims, placing ninth among the 59th swimmers in the prelims and finishing just a tenth of a second shy of qualifying for a breaststroke championship final for the second day in a row.
Fellow senior Allie Davis closed out her collegiate career with career-best times in the 1,000 (9:50.28) and 1650 free (16:17.03). She finished 29th in the mile. Davis moved into third place in program history in the mile and improved on her third-fastest mark in the 1,000.
Meitz finished one spot behind Davis in the mile with a time of 16:17.24.
Divers Sydney Couch and Lexi Vincent made their debuts at the NCAA Championships, representing Purdue in platform diving. Couch (236.45) finished 25th and Vincent 40th (193.60) in the prelims. Couch got off to a strong, averaging 54.95 over the first three rounds. But she missed her fourth dive and the score of 25.20 prevented her from finishing among the top 16 necessary to advance. Couch and Vincent became Purdue's first female divers to qualify for NCAAs as freshmen since 2009.
Emmy Rawson competed for the second day in a row in a butterfly event, finishing 31st in the prelims of the 200 fly with a time of 1:57.55. Rawson also qualified for the NCAA Championships for the first time as an underclassman this year.
Selected Boilermakers will race again on Sunday at a long course time trial in Atlanta as they continue to look towards the Olympic Team Trials this summer. When the 2016-17 college season opens in the fall, NCAAs qualifiers Grace Hernandez, Couch, Meitz, Rawson and Vincent will headline Purdue's returnees.
