Thursday Results / Dive-by-Dive Scoring
ATLANTA -- Mary Beth Dunnichay and Kaersten Meitz of Purdue women's swimming and diving qualified for the consolation finals of their events Thursday to earn Honorable Mention All-America accolades on the first full day of the NCAA Championships.
Dunnichay finished fourth in the consolation final (12th overall) of 1-meter diving to earn her second career All-America honor.
Meitz finished sixth in the consolation final (14th overall) of the 500 freestyle to become the first Purdue swimmer to earn All-America honors in an individual event since Emily Fogle in 2012.
Dunnichay improved on her score by seven points from prelims to finals, posting a score of 293.45 in the finals. She finished strong in both competitions, earning an average award of 49.8 over the final three rounds of the prelims to move into the top 16 and qualify for the consolation final. The senior posted three scores above 50 in the finals, including awards of 53.3 and 57.6 on her final two dives.
Seeded 14th, Meitz posted a time of 4:40.02 in the prelims that was good for 13th and a spot in the consolation final. It was just .27 hundredths of a second off her program-record time from the Big Ten Championships last month. She had a time of 4:40.87 in finals.
Wednesday, the Boilermakers competed in the 800 free relay at the NCAA Championships for the fourth year in a row.
