RIO GRANDE, P.R. -- The No. 15-ranked Purdue men's golf team struggled in the second round of the Puerto Rico Classic, falling to an eighth-place tie after shooting a 2-over par 290 at the Rio Mar Resort and Spa's River Course.

The field includes nine of the nation's top 41 teams and six teams ranked in the top 20.

The Boilermakers are tied with Big Ten-member Maryland at even-par 576 (286-290), 13 shots behind leader Alabama (-13). Georgia (-12), Clemson (-12), North Carolina (-11), Georgia Tech (-7), Kentucky (-7) and Oklahoma (-7) round out the top seven.

The seven teams ahead of Purdue are all ranked in the nation's top 35.

Starting on holes 8 through 11, Purdue once again played well on the back nine as its five players combined to shoot just 2-over par. However, the front nine was a different story as the Purdue five combined to shoot 13-over par.

Through two rounds, Purdue is 23-over par on the front nine and 3-under par on the back nine.

However, junior Austin Eoff continues to rest among the top of the leaderboard. The Benton, Arkansas, native is in a tie for second at 6-under par 138 after his second straight score of 3-under par 69. Eoff was tied for the lead until a bogey on his final hole (No. 7) dropped him off the pace. He trails Alabama's Jonathan Hardee by one shot 67-70=137) and is tied with two other players.

Eoff's score has now counted in 31 straight team rounds and he has posted seven straight rounds of even-par or better while his second-round 69 was his 13th career round in the 60s. He is looking for his eighth straight top-10 finish.

Senior Stuart Macdonald is in a tie for 35th at 1-over par 145 (70-75) after a second-round 75. Macdonald found trouble on his seventh hole of the day, the par-5 15th with a triple-bogey. He played his other 17 holes in even-par.

Sophomore Brian Carlson is tied for 39th at 2-over par 146 (72-74). Carlson was 1-under par through six holes, but suffered through a five-hole stretch of 3-over par before a birdie on his final hole moved him to 2-under par for his round.

Junior Fernando Barco bounced back from a tough first round with an even-par 72 to sit in 44th place after 36 holes at 3-over par 147 (75-72). Barco had two birdies, two bogeys and 14 pars on his day.

Freshman Timmy Hildebrand rounds out Purdue's lineup. He is in 75th place at 20-over par 164 (79-85).

The final round will begin on Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. ET.
