WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. ââ'¬" No. 68 Purdue extended its win streak to eight by defeating Marquette 6-1 at the Schwartz Tennis Center on Saturday. With the win, the Boilermakers pushed their season record to 10-1 and 6-1 on the Basham Courts. The Golden Eagles evened out at 4-4 with the loss.

"You are only as good as your next match and we have the desire to get better every time we step on the court," Purdue head men's tennis coach Pawel Gajdzik said. "The beauty of it is that we can always get better and the team has that mentality. Our goals are higher than maintaining a streak."

Doubles play went smoothly in Purdue's favor. At No. 3, Mateus Silva and Arthur Dobradin defeated the Marquette duo of Nick Dykema and Andre Romanello 6-3. Benjamin Ugarte and Gergely Madarasz clinched the point for the Boilermakers with a 6-4 showing against Kristiyan Trukov and Greg Anderson. It was their second match together in the No. 2 spot.

Purdue kept a steady lead throughout singles. First to finish was Silva, who overwhelmed Romanello at No. 6 in straight sets 6-2 6-0. The win moved the senior's record to 6-3.

No. 96 Madarasz didn't let Marquette's Daniel Fernandez come close, easily winning 6-2, 6-1. Madarasz's win streak at the top of the Boilermakers' lineup is now six straight.

The Golden Eagles got on the board with Truvok's 6-4, 6-3 outing at No. 4 vs. Lucas Dages.

Marquette saw a glimmer of hope in singles play when three matches were forced to a decisive set, although the Boilermakers saw it through. Dobradin got the bagel in the first set against Anderson, but fell short in the second set 6-1. The senior did not let that phase him as he won the third set 6-2. His win pushed Purdue ahead 4-1.

Purdue stayed strong in the Nos. 2 and No. 3 slots as both Ugarte and Ricky Medinilla overcame their opponents, Alvaro Verdu and Dykema, respectively. Medinilla held it close, but Dykema edged him out in the first set 7-6 (5). Looking to extend his streak to nine, Medinilla made it look easy finishing off the Golden Eagle 6-1, 6-2 in the ensuing sets.

Ugarte captured the first set 6-4 vs. Verdu, but dropped the second by the same score. He stormed back in the third set 6-1 to close out the dual match for the Boilermakers.

Purdue hits the road for its next match, traveling to Des Moines, Iowa, for a 6 p.m. ET battle at Drake on Feb. 26.
