WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. ââ'¬" Purdue extended its winning streak to seven straight with a pair victories Saturday playing on the Basham Courts of the Schwartz Tennis Center. The 68th-ranked Boilermakers defeated Valparaiso 4-3 and NAIA opponent Indiana Tech 5-1. With the two wins, the men's tennis team pushed its season mark to 9-1 and 5-1 on their home courts.

After claiming the doubles point over Valparaiso thanks to wins at Nos. 2 and 3, the Crusaders evened the score and then took the lead with back-to-back straight setters at Nos. 4 and 5.

Purdue's top-half of the lineup was credited with securing the dual victory. In his first match as a nationally ranked player, Gergely Madarasz used a pair of 6-4 sets to defeat Jeffrey Schorsch to even the team score at 2-2.

Benjamin Ugarte and Ricky Medinilla each needed a third set in their respective matches at Nos. 2 and 3. Ugarte won the opening set against Dave Bacalla 6-3 and the Crusader answered with a 6-4 second set. The same score was registered in the decisive third, only this time with the redshirt junior prevailing.

Valparaiso's Chad Kissell stormed out with a 6-1 first set vs. Medinilla. After the stunning opener, the Boilermaker recovered for a 6-3 showing in the second. It was a thrilling third with Medinilla edging Kissell in the breaker 7-6 (6).

Purdue made easy work of Indiana Tech in its second match of the day. The Boilermakers won five of the six matches in straight sets and gave up no more than four games in a single set during those matches. Renan Hanayama used little time to blank Kino de Leon at No. 5. Ugarte picked up his second victory with a 6-1, 6-1 showing against Fernando Sousa to lift his record to 7-2.
