- No. 43 DePaul marks the first ranked opponent Purdue has beaten this season … their current record against ranked teams is 1-3 … it was the Boilermakers' first win over a ranked opponent since April 5, 2015, when they beat No. 43 Michigan State 6-1.
- The Boilermakers are now 5-0 on the Basham Courts this season.
- With their victory, the No. 3 doubles team of Claudia Escribens and Natalia Davila have recorded a team-high eight victories.
- Purdue's overall spring doubles record moved to 19-9.
- Strong showings from Purdue's singles play at the Nos. 3, 4, 5 and 6 positions continue to be the story for the Boilermakers … combined, all four positions have an overall record of 33-8.
- Escribens is not only proving to be a key player in doubles, but in singles as well … her victory today marks her seventh straight win and the senior boasts a record of 8-1.
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. ââ'¬"- The No. 51 Purdue women's tennis team claimed its first victory over a ranked opponent on the season by defeating No. 43 DePaul 5-2 on the Basham Courts at the Schwartz Tennis Center on Friday. With the win, the Boilermakers improved to 7-4 on the season.
"We've been so close with recent matches and I thought our team competed really hard today," Purdue head women's tennis coach Laura Glitz said. "That's what we've been talking about, just competing hard and fighting for every point. It's important to make a presence from the beginning to the end of the match, and I think they did a good job with that today."
In doubles action, Purdue's No. 1 doubles team of Andjela Djokovic and Nicole Robinson finished first by defeating DePaul's duo of Patricia Lancranjon and Rebeca Mitrea 6-3. The Boilermaker tandem of Natalia Davila and Claudia Escribens clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 victory over Zaina Sufi and Jarret Fisher of DePaul.
Marta Ruedas-Burgos recorded her eighth win of the season when she defeated DePaul's Milica Tesic 6-0, 6-1 to strike first for Purdue in singles at No. 6. Escribens followed at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Fisher.
The Blue Demons' No. 2 singles player Lancranjon got her team on the board by beating Robinson 6-1, 6-1. The match was clinched with Davila's 7-5, 6-4 decision against Yuliya Shupenia at No. 4.
Purdue returns home to the Schwartz Tennis Center when they take on No. 37 Tulsa on Sunday at noon ET.
