WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Purdue men's tennis team split a doubleheader Saturday while playing on the Basham Courts at the Schwartz Tennis Center. The Boilermakers rebounded from an early 4-2 loss to Western Michigan with a 4-0 showing against Eastern Kentucky to lift their record to 3-1.

Western Michigan captured the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3. Gergely Madarasz evened the team score at 1-1 with a straight-setter of 6-4s over Jefta Kecic at No. 1.

The Broncos responded by winning at the bottom two spots of their lineup. Ruben Greiner won in straight sets at No. 5 vs. Arthur Dobradin and Mateus Silva was topped in the third set by Daniel Loebel 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

Ricky Medinilla gave Purdue its second point by rallying to win sets 2 and 3 vs. Maik Steiner at the No. 3 spot. The dual match was decided at No. 2 as Western Michigan's Matt Hamilton edged reigning Big Ten Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week Benjamin Ugarte in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.

The doubles point against the Colonels was claimed thanks to a 7-5 win from Ugarte and Silva in the No. 2 spot and Madarasz and Lucas Dages with a 6-1 victory at No. 3 over Diogo Soares and Indra Patwardhan.

Silva carried his momentum into singles, posting a straight set 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 vs. Florian Graskamp. Straight-setters also came from Medinilla at No. 3 and Ugarte at No. 2 to clinch the shutout.

The Boilermakers will hit the road for the first time in 2016 when they travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma, for a pair of dual matches. They will meet up against Wichita State in a neutral battle Jan. 30 at 5 p.m. ET. The next day Purdue will play Tulsa at 11 a.m.
