TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The 45th-ranked Purdue women's tennis team finished their first day of competition in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend falling to No. 40 Texas in a back-and-forth match resulting in a final score of 4-3 on Saturday at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility.

The tandem of Andjela Djokovic and Marta Ruedas-Burgos got the ball rolling in doubles action by defeating Neda Koprcina and Lana Groenvynck of Texas 6-3.

The doubles point was then clinched when the Boilermaker duo of Claudia Escribens and Natalia Davila defeated Daniella Roldan and Chelsea Crovetti 6-4.

In singles action, both teams proved to be evenly matched as the first four singles match points alternated between Purdue and the Longhorns, all ending in straight-set victories.

With the match tied 3-3, Davila forced a third set with a 6-2 second-set victory over Neda Koprcina of Texas before eventually getting bested 6-1 in the third.
