WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. ââ'¬" The 44th-ranked Purdue women's tennis team finished its four-dual match weekend with a pair of wins Sunday on the Basham Courts at the Schwartz Tennis Center. The first dual match saw the Boilermakers defeat Eastern Michigan 5-2. They then faced IUPUI for the first time in school history and blanked the Jaguars 7-0. Purdue closes out its opening weekend at 4-0.

"It was an overall group effort," Purdue head women's tennis coach Laura Glitz said. "I thought in general it was a good weekend, which is what I was looking for. One of the things we talked about is getting better each match and with this last match, we didn't let too many points slip."

In doubles action, the Boilermakers' duo of Natalia Davila and Claudia Escribens completed their undefeated weekend by beating Eastern Michigan's tandem of Anna Veleva and Renu Sharma 6-1. They held a 4-1 lead on Valeriia Lavrenchuk/Mariella Pessina of IUPUI, but the match was abandoned with the point clinched by Deborah Suarez and Krisztina Kapitany in the No. 1 spot.

Davila carried her success from doubles into singles action. Highlighting her undefeated weekend was a 6-0, 6-0 double-bagel against IUPUI's Mariella Pessina.

Davila wasn't the only with the hot racket as three of her teammates also recorded a 4-0 record for the weekend: Andjela Djokovic in the No. 2 spot, Krisztina Kapitany at No. 3 and Mara Ruedas-Burgos at No. 6.

Purdue will next compete in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Jan. 23 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The two-day event has the Boilermakers first taking on Texas at 3 p.m. ET, with the outcome dictating who and when they will play on Jan. 24.
