WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) -- Sophomore center Isaac Haas scored 21 of his career-high 24 points in the second half and No. 16 Purdue pulled away to beat winless Lehigh 77-55 on Saturday night.
Purdue took advantage of foul trouble to reigning Patriot League Player of the Year Tim Kempton to improve to 6-0, with all the victories by at least 22 points. Haas' previous high was 19 as a freshman in a Maui Invitational loss to Kansas State.
Johnny Hill added 13 points, P.J. Thompson had 10, Vince Edwards finished with nine points and 10 rebounds, and Caleb Swanigan had seven points and 12 rebounds.
Kempton led Lehigh (0-6) with 17 points and nine rebounds.
The Boilermakers played without senior guard and No. 2 scorer Rapheal Davis (11.6 points and 3.4 rebounds), who suffered a sprained knee in practice Wednesday,
A 3-pointer from Thompson with 5:57 remaining extended Purdue's lead to 62-46. Haas' two free throws gave the Boilermakers a 72-48 lead.
Hill and Thompson combined for 16 first-half points, and Purdue led 36-26 through 20 minutes in large part because it limited the Mountain Hawks to 24.3 percent field goal shooting (9 of 37). Lehigh missed its first eight shots.
The Boilermakers and Lehigh were tied at 12 with 10:48 remaining in the first half, then outscored the Mountain Hawks 24-14 to close the half. Purdue made 12 of 14 first half free throws. Lehigh was 5 of 10. The taller Boilermakers were outrebounded 26-24 during the opening 20 minutes.
