TULSA, Okla. -- Purdue's Ricky Medinilla earned a berth in the qualifying singles draw of the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships, but was unable to move into the Round of 32 Monday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Playing his second match of the day, Medinilla went up against No. 105 Robert Kelly of North Carolina in the Round of 64. The Tar Heel claimed victory in straight sets 6-2, 6-0, forcing the Boilermakers' junior out of the draw.
Medinilla won a spot in the 64-player qualifying draw by going 4-0 over the past two days in the prequalifying draw. The deciding match for the junior was a 7-5, 6-3 decision of Oklahoma State's Tristan Meraut earlier Monday.
Fall action continues for the Purdue men's tennis team at the UT Rocket Invitational starting Saturday.
