Medinilla Advances to Round of 32

TULSA, Okla. -- Purdue's Ricky Medinilla won a pair of matches Sunday to earn a spot in the prequalifying singles Round of 32 at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships on Sunday. The junior will be back in action Monday at 9 a.m. ET at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center to play for a berth in the 128-player qualifying draw.

Both of Medinilla's matches were a battle until the end. In the Round of 128, both sets against Santiago Canete of Temple were decided in the breaker 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3). He followed up with a 7-5, 6-3 showing over SIU-Carbondale's Wilder Pimentel of in the Round of 64.

On Monday Medinilla will play Oklahoma State's Tristan Meraut in the Round of 32. Meraut has won his first three matches in straight sets.

Mateus Silva's run at the tournament came to an end in the Round of 64. The senior began Sunday with matching set scores of 6-3 vs. Utah's Freddie McGeehan in the Round of 128. Robert Herrera of East Tennessee State dealt the Boilermakers' senior a 6-2, 6-2 setback in the ensuing round.
