Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships Tournament Central
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Purdue women's tennis team completed day two of the Purdue Invite Saturday on the Basham Courts of the Schwartz Tennis Center. The Boilermakers closed doubles competition by posting a combined 7-5 record in the tournament and have won five singles matches heading into the final day of competition, which starts Sunday at 9 a.m. ET. Play is scheduled to take place both indoors and outdoors.
In doubles, Andjela Djokovic and Nicole Robinson led the way with two wins over Louisville and Notre Dame, with both matches decided by a score of 6-2.
The Boilermakers' tandem of Deborah Suarez and Marta Ruedas-Burgos also posted a 7-5 win over Nastia Vasukhina and Nelli Ponomareva of Miami (Ohio). Natalia Davila and Claudia Escribens also provided a 6-2 decision against Mississippi State's Jennifer Brown and Kristina Vozniak.
In singles, Escribens struck first with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Iowa's Adorabol Huckleby. After dropping the first set 6-3, Davila bounced back to beat Hanna Shteyn of Miami (Ohio) by a match score of 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4).
Out on the West Coast, Krisztina Kapitany was in prequalifying singles action at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, California. The senior fell to No. T-96 Asiya Dair of Boston College 6-2, 6-1 in the Round of 64.
On Tuesday, Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum, who is tied at No. 114 nationally in the ITA's preseason singles rankings, opens in the qualifying singles draw. She and Kapitany also take to the court in qualifying doubles Tuesday.
