TULSA, Okla. -- Ricky Medinilla and Mateus Silva were victorious for the Purdue men's tennis team in the prequalifying singles Round of 256 of the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships on Saturday. Medinilla was in action at Union High School, while Silva and Dominik Sochurek played at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Medinilla took on Chris Patzanovsky of Memphis, who won a three-setter play-in match Saturday morning. The Purdue junior ousted his opponent in matching set scores of 7-5. He will face the winner of Jake Stefanik of Kentucky vs. Santiago Canete of Temple in Sunday's Round of 128.
A straight-set victory was registered by Silva to advance into the Round of 128. The senior topped Oral Roberts' Jan Pehnec 6-4, 6-3. He will square off against Utah's Freddie McGeehan on Sunday. McGeehan defeated Julian Zlobinsky of Texas in straight sets 6-3, 7-5.
Sochurek captured the first set in the breaker from Alp Horoz of Northwestern, but was unable to clinch in the second, falling 7-5. The decisive set was taken by the Wildcat 6-3.
