Trio of Boilermakers Win in Third Set

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Purdue men's tennis team went 3-1 to open the Old Gold and Black Classic on the Basham Courts at the Schwartz Tennis Center on Friday. The Boilermakers received victories from Lucas Dages, Arthur Dobradin and Dominik Sochurek. Action will return to the Schwartz Tennis Center on Saturday with three round of singles scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. ET.

Dages got the ball rolling first for Purdue with a three-setter over IUPUI's Jose Calero 6-2, 4-6, 7-5. With the victory, the junior now has eight wins for the fall season.

After falling in the first set 6-4, Dobradin battled back to beat Kyle Whittaker of IUPUI 7-5, 6-2. To end the first day of play, Sochurek won a hard-fought match against Patrick Downs of Ball State 7-5, 6-7, 6-3.

The Old Gold and Black Classic is an all-Hoosier State lineup with Purdue, Ball State and IUPUI. Each team will send four players to the court for singles and play with a pair of doubles teams. All matches will be contested on the indoor Basham Courts.
