GLENCOE, Ill. ââ'¬"- Anchored by four players in the top 10, the Purdue men's golf team pieced together a record-setting day and owns an eight-shot lead entering tomorrow's final round at the 19th Windon Memorial Classic. The tournament will wrap Sunday at the Lake Shore Country Club along the shores of Lake Michigan north of Chicago.

Purdue leads the 14-team field after 36 holes with a 15-under par 553 following rounds of 281-272 on the par-71 layout to lead Michigan by eight shots and Northwestern by 12 shots entering tomorrow's final round. UC Davis and Ohio State are tied for fourth at 1-over par 569.

Purdue's second-round score of 272 is the third-best cumulative 18-hole score in school history, behind 270s posted at the USF Invitational (March 4, 2014) and the Gator Invitational (Feb. 10, 2002). In relation to par, the 12-under par round is the second-best score in school history behind an 18-under par round at the USF Invitational (March 4, 2014).

In addition, the Boilermakers' 272 is the second-best round in tournament history and the 15-under par, 36-hole score is also second in tournament history.

Leading the Purdue charge is senior Stuart Macdonald, who owns a one-shot lead in the medalist race after firing rounds of 68 and 67 for a 7-under par 135. Macdonald leads the field by one shot over Northwestern's Andrew Whalen. Macdonald recorded 10 birdies against just three bogeys during the day, ranking second in the field with 10 birdies behind teammate Brian Carlson.

Macdonald's second-round 67 is a career-best round and his total of 135 tied the tournament record for the lowest 36-hole score in tournament history, done by three other players including Purdue's Peter Richardson in 2003.

Carlson, a sophomore from Madison, Connecticut, is tied for sixth at 3-under par 139 (72-67). Carlson had a see-saw first round with four birdies and five bogeys, before turning it on during the second round. Junior Austin Eoff had a steady day, finishing 36 holes in an eighth-place tie at 2-under par 140 (71-69). Eoff led the tournament field in pars (28) while recording five birdies against three bogeys. He was even-par through 15 holes during his second round before recording back-to-back birdies on his 16th and 17th holes to move to 2-under par for his round.

Junior Fernando Barco is also tied in eighth at 2-under par 140 (71-69). In Barco's first round, he was 2-under par before a double-bogey on the par-5 7th hole dropped him back to even par. He then had 14 pars, three birdies and one bogey in another solid round for a 2-under par 69.

Freshman Jarle Volden is tied for 41st at 4-over par 146 (71-75), while Chad Phillips is tied for 69th as an individual at 11-over par 153 (78-75).
