WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. --The Purdue men's tennis team sent two into the semifinals of the Purdue Fall Invitational Saturday at the Schwartz Tennis Center. Arthur Dobradin and Lucas Dages punched their ticket with wins in the singles Flight B and D, respectively. First serves for the semifinals are set for 8 a.m. ET.
Dobradin registered a 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (8) decision over Butler's Spencer Lang. Dages rallied from a 6-1 loss in the first set, with a 6-3 second set and a 7-6 (4) third to clinch it.
In consolation matches, the Boilermakers were 3-for-3. In Flight A, Mateus Silva and Ricky Medinilla picked up straight-set victories and rookie Dominik Sochurek cruised in straight sets in Flight C.
Saturday's competition started with doubles. Medinilla and Sochurek rebounded in the consolations of Flight A with an 8-2 showing against Mason Dragos and Ari Gerstein of Butler. In Flight B, Silva and Dages picked up their second win side-by-side, edging Luke Hubert and Andrea Morlet of Indianapolis 9-7.
Dobradin and Renan Hanayama went back and forth with Eastern Kentucky's Diogo Soares and Indra Patwardhan in the Flight C semifinals, but fell in the breaker, 9-8 (5).
The three-day tournament concludes Sunday with one complete round of singles and the championship finals at noon. Matches will be played at both the Schwartz Tennis Center and Purdue Rec Sports Center Tennis Courts.
Fifteen teams are represented in the event in addition to the Boilermakers: Ball State, Butler, Chicago State, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, IUPUI, Lewis University, Louisville, Marquette, Southern Illinois, Tennessee, Tennessee Tech, Toledo, University of Indianapolis and Wright State.
