TOLEDO, Ohio ââ'¬"- The Purdue men's golf team struggled out of the gates in the final round, but found its groove on the back nine to finish tied for fourth at the Inverness Intercollegiate held at the prestigious Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.

The Boilermakers recorded a 54-hole total of 35-over par 887 (302-286-299) to finish in a fourth-place tie with Yale, 10 shots behind tournament winner California (+25; 877). East Tennessee State, which won the event last year, was second (+28; 880) while Big Ten-rival Michigan was third (+32; 884).

Purdue struggled mightily on the very-difficult front nine, posting a combined, five-member score of 22-over par, before rallying on the back nine for a combined score of 1-over par. The Boilermakers recorded no birdies with three double bogeys on the front nine, but managed six birdies and no double bogeys in the final nine holes.

Junior Austin Eoff led the Boilermakers with his second straight sixth-place finish by recording a 5-over par 218 (75-70-73). Eoff was 4-over par through 15 holes, but managed birdies on hole Nos. 16 and 18 to move to 2-over par for his round and record his ninth top-10 finish of his career, coming in just his 27th event.

Classmate Fernando Barco struggled in the third round on Tuesday, but still managed to finish tied for 14th at 9-over par 222 (73-71-78). Barco was 7-over par after 10 holes today, but played his final eight holes in even-par to record his second straight top-15 finish, and third straight dating back to last year.

Sophomore Brian Carlson finished in an 18th-place tie at 10-over par 223 (77-72-74). Carlson, like his teammates, was 4-over par through nine holes, but played the back nine in 1-under par for his final-round 74. It marks his second career top-20 finish, the first coming at last year's Desert Mountain Intercollegiate.

Senior Stuart Macdonald and freshman Jarle Volden finished tied for 40th at 16-over par 229. Macdonald finished today with an 8-over par 79 after rounds of 77 and 73 yesterday. Volden recorded rounds of 77-78-74 in his first tournament on the counting squad.

This marks Purdue's third straight top-five finish dating back to last year and in 26 regular-season events under head coach Rob Bradley, Purdue has placed in the top five in 17 of them.

Purdue will compete next weekend (Sunday and Monday) at the Windon Memorial Classic in Northbrook, Illinois.
