WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -  The Boilermakers battled the wind on Thursday afternoon at the Bimel Practice Complex. The team had its final practice before Saturday morning's 9:45 a.m. Jersey Scrimmage at Ross-Ade Stadium, a week ahead of the Spring Game.

The tight ends are looking to replace the majority of their production from a season ago. The team lost starters Justin Sinz and Gabe Holmes to graduation and return little in terms of experience. Jordan Jurasevich and Cole Herdman look to be the guys so far, as both have had strong springs. Jurasevich saw limited action a year ago, while Herdman is coming off his redshirt season.

The group has a great, new position coach in Terry Malone. Malone came to the Boilermakers this spring from the New Orleans Saints, where he mentored the tight ends, including Pro Bowler Jimmy Graham. Malone told the media after practice that his new group enjoys hearing stories about the NFL guys and what they lack in experience, they try to make up for with hard work.

Head coach Darrell Hazell also talked to the media. He said it was tough to not be able to practice in Indianapolis as it was earlier scheduled, but was glad the guys still got in good work on campus. Hazell also gave a quick preview on what to look for in Saturday's Jersey Scrimmage. He said that each of the quarterbacks will be live for at least a couple drives, and he's excited to see how the offensive line holds up.

Herdman also spoke to the media. He talked about what he picked up during his redshirt season and how he feels he has progressed in the weight room and on the field. The redshirt freshman is excited to show the team and coaches and his teammates what he can do this weekend.

The Boilermakers have five more springs practices, including the Jersey Scrimmage and Spring Game, all of which are free and open to the public. The weekday practices will be held either indoors at Mollenkopf or, weather permitting, outside at the Bimel Complex and begin at approximately 3:30 p.m. ET. Each practice will be about two hours long. The remaining practice schedule is below.
