WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -Â The Boilermakers were in full pads at the Bimel Practice Complex on Tuesday afternoon. The team has just one more practice before Saturday's Jersey Scrimmage, a week ahead of the Spring Game.
The wide receivers are a group that is looking for significant improvement from a year ago. They are now under the direction of Gerard Parker, who was the tight ends coach the previous two seasons. Parker is excited about his group and likes the potential for big plays. He has sat down and had discussions with his guys individually to discuss where they were last year, and where he wants them to be for the fall. A couple of guys that he thinks can be big time players are Gregory Phillips and DeAngelo Yancey, as well as a handful of other guys from the group.
Parker has had the group working on getting downfield and running precise routes, among other things. He likes the commitment that his guys have shown in the offseason and thought they had a pretty good practice on Tuesday.
Head coach Darrell Hazell thought the team got a lot of good work in as well. He worked the team through several different game-like situations. He wants to see a deep group of guys be ready to play and specifically pointed out that he likes what he sees from Cameron Posey. The full interview with Hazell can be found below.
Trae Hart also spoke to the media. He said that he has focused on getting bigger and stronger during the offseason because it was tough to get adjusted to the speed and physicality of Big Ten football. Hart feels a lot more confident this spring and feels that he knows the offense better and is ready to carry a bigger load. His interview is at the bottom of the page.
Coach Hazell briefly addressed Purdue's April 9 practice that is scheduled to take place at Arsenal Tech High School's Howard Longshore Stadium, located at 1500 East Michigan Street in Indianapolis. He said that the staff is monitoring the weather, and if the forecast looks certain to have lightning, it will force the team to stay on campus and practice inside Mollenkopf. An announcement is expected on Wednesday to determine the location of Thursday's session. If in Indianapolis, it will run from 4:30 to 6:15 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
The Boilermakers have six more springs practices, all of which are free and open to the public. Other than the April 9 practice, weather permitting, the weekday practices will be held either indoors at Mollenkopf or, weather permitting, outside at the Bimel Complex and begin at approximately 3:30 p.m. ET. Each practice will be about two hours long. The remaining practice schedule is below.
