WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue baseball received another quality outing on the mound as starter Matt Frawley did not walk a batter over six innings, but Iowa was a victorious, 4-1, Sunday afternoon to complete a three-game series sweep.
Kyle Wood connected for a solo home run in the sixth inning to account for the Boilermakers' (10-21, 1-5 Big Ten) only run, going deep for the second day in a row.
The Hawkeyes (21-7, 6-0 Big Ten) improved to 8-1 at Alexander Field, where they have played each of the last three seasons. They scored a single run in four different frames Sunday, all four runs scoring on a timely RBI hit. For the series, Iowa was 19-for-44 with runners in scoring position and 14-for-38 with two outs. Conversely, Purdue was 6-for-23 with runners in scoring position and 4-for-27 with two outs.
Frawley (1-5) put together the best outing of his career at Alexander Field, surrendering three runs (two earned) over 6 1/3 innings. The final run he was charged with scored after he left the mound in the top of the seventh. Iowa starter Calvin Mathews (3-0) was equally strong, giving up only five hits and one walk over six innings.
Walks to Cody Strong and Brandon Krieg brought Wood to the plate representing the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth. Iowa went to the bullpen for Nick Hibbing, who induced an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play. The Boilermakers also had runners on second and third with one out in the fifth inning but couldn't score.
Jack Picchiotti singled in his first at-bat, reaching base safely for the 14th straight Big Ten game dating back to last season. He tried to score from second base on Daniel Sander's infield hit behind the second base bag, but was thrown out at the plate to end the second inning.

Tyler Peyton drove in Iowa's first and third runs of the day with RBI hits. Eric Toole, Nick Roscetti and Peyton each had a pair of hits and at least one RBI Sunday, finishing the weekend with six hits each. Together they had a combined 13 RBI in the series.
Sander and Strong each had a single and a walk Sunday as the only Boilers to reach base safely more than once. Kyle Johnson singled in the fifth inning to extend his reached base safely streak to 12 consecutive games.
Frawley retired 13 of the first 16 batters he faced, working 1-2-3 innings in the first and third. But Iowa efficiently manufactured a run with a leadoff single, sac bunt and RBI single to open the scoring in the top of fourth.
Purdue pitchers hit three batters on the day and all three times it helped Iowa score a run.
The Boilermakers turned a pair of nifty inning-ending double plays. Strong made a diving stop to start a 4-6-3 twin killing to erase a leadoff single in the top of the second. Krieg and Strong teamed up on a 5-4-3 double play to finish off the top of the eighth.
Purdue returns to action Tuesday for a 6 p.m. midweek game at Indiana State.
