WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Kylie Vogel's new program record in the 100 butterfly as well as career-best swims for seven other Boilermakers to move up the all-time Top 10 lists highlighted Purdue women's swimming's Boiler-Make-It NCAA Last Chance Meet Saturday.
The time trial meet at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center also featured swimmers from Illinois, Indiana, Northwestern and Notre Dame.
Vogel posted a Purdue-record time of 52.85 in a 100 fly time trial, eclipsing Alex Todd's benchmark of 53.24 from the Big Ten Championships earlier in the month. Vogel also held the 100 fly record after the Friday prelims of Big Tens last season until Todd eclipsed it in the finals later that night. Saturday, Vogel became the first Purdue woman to finish the 100 fly under 53 seconds.
Francesca Marr posted a career-best time of 2:10.32 in the 200 breaststroke, improving on her second-fastest mark in program history.
Purdue head coach John Klinge said that Marr and Vogel both improved their chances of qualifying for the NCAA Championships as individuals. He predicted five swimmers would qualify in individual events and two others would earn spots via the Boilers' A Cut qualifying time, which was a program record of 7:03.15, in the 800 free relay at Big Tens. The women's list of individual swimming qualifiers for the NCAA Championships is expected to be released late Wednesday afternoon.
The divers earn their spots at NCAAs via the Zone Championships and Purdue will compete in Zone C March 12-14 in Columbus.
Anji Li (50 free), Emmy Rawson (100 fly), Stephanie Schlobohm (100 fly), Lew Gerbrandt (100 fly), Annie Spalding (100 breast) and Meagan Lim (200 fly) also posted career-best times at the Boiler-Make-It meet, moving up on the program's all-time lists.
Hannah Manger, Caroline Weigand, Vogel and Carly Marshall finished the 200 medley relay in 1:39.13, just one tenth of a second behind the new program record (1:39.03) established by the quartet of Manger, Emily Fogle, Vogel and Li at Big Tens this year.
Todd's 100 butterfly time and the two relay benchmarks were among the eight new program records Purdue established at the Big Ten Championships this year.
