WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue baseball scored just one run over 18 innings on a cold day at Alexander Field, suffering a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Butler, 4-0 and 13-1, Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (11-14) have won eight in a row and the Boilermakers (9-17) have dropped six straight. Purdue has scored just nine runs during its losing skid.

Game one was scoreless until the ninth inning. Butler's Chris Marras delivered a three-run double down the left field line with the bases loaded to finally capitalize on a scoring chance after the two teams had left a combined 19 runners on base over the first eight innings.

The Bulldogs scored all 13 runs in the nightcap over the middle innings (4-5-6), including eight in the top of the sixth to blow the game open.

The Boilermakers turned four double plays in game two and five for the day. But Butler out hit Purdue, 27-10, over the course of the two games.

The Boilermakers' lone run Saturday came in the sixth inning of the nightcap. Brandon Krieg scored on an RBI ground out by Kyle Johnson after doubling to open the frame.

Purdue hitters were 0-for-16 for the day with runners in scoring position. Seven of their 14 strikeouts came on a called strike three.

Harry Shipley reached base safely in five of his seven plate appearances and contributed to three double plays. He and Kyle Wood had a pair of hits in game one. Ted Snidanko reached safely in four of his eight plate appearances. Jack Picchiotti drew a walk in both games to extend his reached base safely streak to 11 consecutive games.

Butler's game one starter Jeff Schank struck out seven over six innings of three-hit ball. The Boilermakers had the potential go-ahead run in scoring position in every inning from the fourth through the eighth, but could not come up with the big hit.

Third baseman Mike Kseniak robbed Johnson of a two-out RBI single with Wood at third in the sixth inning, snaring a sharp line drive ticketed for left field. Wood opened the frame with a double and took third with one out on Snidanko's sacrifice bunt. But Schank struck out Picchiotti to win the lefty-lefty matchup.

Mike Kornacker gave up just five singles over 5 2/3 innings. Joe Eichmann (1-1) struck out the first batter he faced to end the top of the sixth and strand the go-ahead run at third base. The senior also escaped a bases-loaded jam in the eighth to keep the game scoreless. But a leadoff single from the Bulldogs' No. 9 hitter led to the big inning in the ninth.

Matt Gibbs struck out both batters he retired in the ninth, but also up the game-deciding double and issued a pair of walks. The senior surrendered two hits Saturday after giving up just two hits in the 7 2/3 innings he had worked over nine appearances entering the day.

Butler's Quincy Quintero had four hits and four RBI in the nightcap. He was one of five Bulldogs with multiple hits in the blowout. Butler sent 11 men to the plate in the eight-run sixth inning.

Peter Nyznyk (1-1) worked six innings of three-hit ball as the game two starter for the Bulldogs. His only 1-2-3 inning was the bottom of the first, but a Boilermaker did not reach third base against him until the sixth.

The finale of the weekend series is scheduled to be play at Bulldog Park on Butler's campus in Indianapolis. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
