RIO GRANDE, P.R. -- After scuffling in the opening round, the Purdue men's golf team finished on a high note over the last two days, finishing fifth at the prestigious Puerto Rico Classic. The Boilermakers totaled a 3-over par 867 (298-284-285) to finish 15 shots behind tournament champion Georgia and just eight shots out of second place (Georgia Tech; 859).

The Boilermakers were in 10th place after 18 holes, but played the final two rounds in seven-under par, just two shots behind No. 5-ranked Georgia Tech (9-under par) for the top score over the final 36 holes. Just three teams (Georgia, Alabama and Purdue) recorded two rounds at or below par.

Purdue's score of 3-over par 867 is the 21st-best 54-hole tournament score in school history. Seven of the top 27, 54-hole scores in school history have come under head coach Rob Bradley, now in his second season at Purdue. He has been the head coach for just 16, 54-hole tournaments.

Stuart Macdonald recorded his third career top-10 finish with a 3-under par 213.

Leading Purdue's contingent was junior Stuart Macdonald, who recorded his third career top-10 finish with a 3-under par 213 (72-73-68), good for 10th place. Macdonald fired a career-low 68 (-4) in the final round, featuring five birdies and just one bogey.

The 213 matched his career-low 54-hole score, set last year at the Boilermaker Invitational (T-4th).

Sophomore Austin Eoff rebounded from a tough first round to finish tied for 22nd at 2-over par 218 (77-69-72). Eoff jumped 31 spots over the final two rounds, playing steady, mistake-free golf. He finished the day with 16 pars, one birdie and one bogey and over his final 36 holes, recorded 29 pars, five birdies and two bogeys.

Freshman Brian Carlson pieced together the best tournament of his young career with a 27th-place showing at 3-over par 219 (78-69-72). Like Eoff, Carlson overcame a tough opening round by recording nine birdies against six bogeys in the final two rounds. The finish marks his first top-30 placing of his career.

Ben-Marvin Egel finished tied for 30th at 4-over par 220 (74-73-73). Egel had a steady tournament, going 54 holes without a double-bogey or worse. Egel had just nine bogeys in his 54 holes and was on the counting team on each round.

Enzo Perez finished tied for 45th at 9-over par 225 (75-76-74). Perez was competing in his first tournament, competing in his first scoring tournament since the season opener in the fall.

Alabama's Dru Love and Virginia Tech's Scott Vincent tied shared medalist honors at 7-under par.

Purdue's next action will come in the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate in Scottsdale, Ariz., on March 6-7.
