WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - That's entertainment.
One of the most-anticipated and talked-about events of the year for Purdue Athletics - the Golden Pete Awards show - is on the horizon. The third-annual artful blend of accomplishment and fun that celebrates the achievements of Boilermaker student-athletes for the past 12 months is scheduled for Sunday, April 26, beginning at 7 p.m., at the historic Loeb Playhouse on campus.
And, once again, it is exclusive to John Purdue Club and Varsity P Club members.
In addition to presenting traditional honors like the Big Ten Medal of Honor, Distinguished Scholar Athlete Award, Varsity Walk Award and Wooden Leadership Institute Certificate of Achievement, Golden Petes will be presented in the following nine categories: Breakout of the Year (presented to that student-athlete who has stepped up and taken a leadership role on his or her team); Spark Plug Award (presented to that student-athlete who ignites his or her team with emotional leadership); Coach of the Year; Comeback of the Year (presented to that squad that had the best come-from-behind win); Individual Performance, Single Event; Individual Performance, Season - Male; Individual Performance, Season - Female; Team Performance, Single Event; and Team Performance, Season. Team videos produced by student-athletes will be sprinkled into the festivities, culminating with a Video of the Year.
This year's co-hosts are former football player Akin Ayodele (1999-2001), a member of the famed Den of Defensive Ends, and former basketball player Stephanie White (1996-99), who played on the Boilermakers' 1999 national championship team.
The Golden Pete Awards show also serves as a senior sendoff to Purdue student-athletes and those students who are involved in behind-the-scenes roles.
The Golden Pete Awards show is hosted by the John Purdue Club and the Varsity P Club.
Registration information will be forthcoming.
Attire for the event is dressy casual.
