WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue student-athletes from took time away from school work and practice on Wednesday to participate in "Reading is Leading," a Mortar Board-sponsored initiative involving local elementary schools. Each celebrity reader was paired up with a small group of children in the Purdue Memorial Union for short reading sessions.

Those that participated were Isaac Haas, A.J. Hammons and Basil Smotherman (men's basketball); Landon Feichter, Robert Kugler, Ryan Russell, Justin Sinz and Charles Torwudzo (football); Mollie Kuramoto, Delia Repasky and Soraya Toppin-Herbert (soccer); Natalia Davila, Krisztina Kapitany and Daniela Vidal (women's tennis); Megan Broecker and Hope Schmelzle (women's track & field); Faye Adelaja, Kaisley Fisher and KiKi Jones (volleyball), and Kaylah Hampton (softball), as well as a number of cheerleaders.

The Boilermakers are committed to giving back to the local community through several service initiatives throughout the school year.
