COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Highlighted by victories in five individual events as well as the 400 freestyle relay to close out the meet, No. 24 Purdue women's swimming and diving posted a split in triple dual action with Cincinnati and Ohio State Friday afternoon.
The Boilermakers cruised past Cincinnati, 246-53, but came up short against the host Buckeyes, 165-134. Purdue is 2-1 in dual meets so far this year.
Abby Jagdfeld (100 free), Allie Davis (200 free), Alex Todd (100 fly), Rhiannon Sheets (200 fly) and Samm Reese (1-meter diving) were all event winners. Kylie Vogel teamed up with Davis, Jagdfeld and Sheets on the victorious 400 freestyle relay team.
The men's divers also competed from the springboards Friday and won both events. Steele Johnson (428.05) and Jamie Bissett (405.90) each surpassed the 400-point mark while finishing one-two on 3-meter. No other diver even recorded a list score of 365 in the event Friday. With his score, Johnson leapfrogged Bissett into third place in program history.
Bissett was also the winner on 1-meter and has now placed first or second in each of the six diving events in which he has competed so far on the young season.
Kaersten Meitz finished as the runner-up in a pair of events to highlight Purdue's second-place showings. She was second to OSU's Lindsey Clary in both the 500 and 1000 free. Clary posted a pool-record time of 9:54.61 in the 1000, eclipsing a mark that had stood since 2005. But Meitz hung with her much of the race and her time of 9:57.52 moved her into seventh place in program history. Clary out touched the freshman by .23 hundredths of a second in the 500 free.
Davis (2nd in 500 free) and Jagdfeld (2nd in 200 free) each posted a runner-up finish to go along with their event victories. Emily Fogle (100 breast), Nika Karlina Petric (200 IM), MacKenzie Tweardy (3-meter diving) and Vogel (50 free) also had a second-place showing.
Davis, Jagdfeld and Sheets finished one-two-three to help Purdue dominate the 200 free.
The Boilermakers return to action Saturday, Nov. 1 for a co-ed dual meet at Notre Dame.
