Austin Eoff is tied for ninth after shooting even-par 144.
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Purdue men's golf team struggled during the first 36 holes of the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate and sits in 11th place after two rounds of competition at the Grandover Resort.
Purdue totaled rounds of 304-294=598 (+22) to finish the first day in 11th place out of 13 teams. North Carolina leads at 8-under par 568, while Virginia Tech is three shots back at 5-under par 571. Memphis is third at 8-over par 584.
Purdue could not avoid the big numbers in the first two rounds. The Boilermakers were last in the field in pars made (102) and the six players (one as an individual) recorded 10 holes or double-bogey or worse. The Boilermakers were 12th out of 13 teams in par-4 scoring (+34).
Sophomore Austin Eoff had a strong first day, currently sitting in a tie for ninth at even-par 144 (75-69). In the first round, he was even-par through 15 holes, but bogeyed the last three holes to finish with an opening-round 75. In the second round, he was as low as 5-under par, also through 15 holes, before bogeys on 16 and 18 dropped him to a 3-under 69.
Stuart Macdonald is tied for 42nd at 7-over par 151 (75-76). Macdonald recorded just two birdies in the first 36 holes.
Fernando Barco and Justin Cho are tied for 53rd at 8-over par 152. In the second round, Barco recorded a quadruple-bogey 8 on the par-4 fifth hole to drop him to 5-over par for his round, but crawled back to 1-over par through 14 holes after recording birdies on four-of-five holes to start his back nine. He would finish with a 3-over par 75.
Cho recorded scores of 78-74 and was even through 15 holes, before finishing his second round by bogeying two of his last three holes.
Philippe Schweizer is tied for 73rd at 13-over par 157 (77-80), while Brian Carlson is tied for 67th at 12-over par 156 (76-80), competing as an individual.
The final round tees off at 8:30 a.m. (ET) on Sunday at the Grandover Resort.
