Purdue struggled on its opening nine holes, compiling a five-person score of 10-over par. The Boilermakers righted the ship and finished their back nine in 1-under par for its five-person score to finish the day 5-over par.

The Boilermakers got consistent scoring from all five spots as four of its five scorers sit in the top 24 individually, while another, Philippe Schweizer, is also tied for 24th as an individual.

Three Boilermakers all finished their round at 1-over par 73, as sophomores Fernando Barco and Austin Eoff as well as junior Stuart Macdonald paced Purdue in round one.

Barco went out in 38 after nine holes, before birdies on Nos. 1 & 2 (Purdue started on the back nine) moved him to even-par. Barco then had the misfortune of having to complete his final couple shots following a one-hour weather delay, resulting in a bogey on his 18th hole to drop him to 1-over par for his round.

Eoff also went out in 2-over par 38 and a bogey on his 13th hole dropped him to 3-over par. However, birdies on his 14th and 17th holes moved him to 1-over par for his round.

Macdonald had an up-and-down first round, compiling four birdies against nine pars and five bogeys to shoot an opening round 73 (+1).

The Purdue trio is tied for 14th overall, seven shots behind the leader, Winthrop's Zach Seabolt.

Senior Ben-Marvin Egel, who was playing in his first competitive action for Purdue since the 2013 Big Ten Championship, rounded out Purdue's scoring with a 2-over par 74, good for a 24th-place tie. Egel went out in 3-over par 39, but rallied on the back nine for a 1-under par 35 (two birdies, one bogey) to finish with a 74.

Senior Enzo Perez bogeyed four of his first 10 holes, but played the final eight holes in even-par to finish with an opening-round 76 (+4).

Sophomore Philippe Schweizer, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 24th after an opening-round 74 (+2). Schweizer started on the front nine, going out in 1-under par, before finishing with a 39 on the back nine.

The Boilermakers will be paired with Winthrop and Ohio State tomorrow morning and will tee off at 9:11 AM (CT) / 10:11 AM (ET) on Saturday morning.
