PROVO, Utah -- Purdue Director of Sports Performance Duane Carlisle will be recognized as a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach (MSCC) at its annual MSCC Dinner and Ceremony to be held Thursday, May 8, 2014, at the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association national conference, the organization announced today.

In his role as high performance coordinator for the sports performance department, Carlisle's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, staff development, training methodology, budget oversight and facility design.

Under the guidance of Carlisle and his staff, a revamped sports performance program helped support an overall departmental effort that led Purdue to one of the finest years in its athletic history in 2011-12. In his initial season with the Purdue football program, the Boilermakers' first bowl campaign since 2007, Carlisle worked to establish a new vision of mental toughness and building a program that pushes itself collectively as a whole. As the program went to back-to-back bowl games, players showed significant improvement in their strength, speed and power.

He joined Purdue from the San Francisco 49ers, where he served as the head strength and conditioning coach for four years (2008-11). He initially started with the 49ers as an assistant strength and conditioning coach (2005-08) before taking over the program. He served under head coach and Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary in San Francisco.

Carlisle has additionally worked as a speed coach for the Philadelphia Eagles (2000-04) and spent two years as the speed development coordinator for the Tampa Bay Rays (1997-98).

He is the owner and operator of Lightning Fast Training Systems, LLC, which was founded in 1994. Lightning Fast Training Systems has trained more than 10,000 athletes in 20 sports, produced more than 1,000 Division I athletes, and Carlisle's instructional videos on speed training have consistently been top sellers.

He received a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Maryland, where he was also competed for the track and field team. Carlisle received his master's degree in exercise and sport science with an emphasis in Strength and Conditioning from Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia. Carlisle is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He is also Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa), and is an CSCCa Approved Mentor. He holds Sport Performance Coach certification through U.S.A. Weight Lifting (USAW) and is a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

He served on the Sports Performance Advisory Council with Under Armour (2008-11) and is a member of the NIKE SPARQ Advisory Board.
