DADE CITY, Fla. -- Much like on day one, the Purdue men's golf team was forced to rally on the back nine on day two of the USF Invitational, finishing the round in 1-under par (287) to finish the second round in eighth place with a two-day score of 6-under par 570.
Tournament leader and host school USF, ranked 33rd in the country, turned in a remarkable round of 19-under par 269 to lead the tournament with a 26-under par score of 550. Florida State is second at 17-under par 559. Big Ten rival Illinois is in third at 16-under par 560.
Of the seven teams ranked ahead of Purdue, six of them are ranked in the top 37 nationally. The lone team not ranked is the round-one leader UNC Greensboro at 11-under par 565 in fifth place.
Just one week after being in contention at the Puerto Rico Classic, senior Adam Schenk finds himself in the hunt for the individual medalist again, currently in a tie for second at 9-under par 135 (65-70), four shots behind Illinois' Brian Campbell. Schenk rallied for a 2-under par 70 on his round after being 2-over par after six holes. He responded with four birdies in the last 12 holes to finish his round.
Enzo Perez recorded one of his best rounds of the season and sits a tie for 36th after a 1-under par today and a two-day total of 1-over par 145 (74-71). Perez had three birdies on his round and parred the last eight holes after a birdie on No. 10 to get him to 1-under par on his round.
Freshman Austin Eoff is in a tie for 20th after his round of 1-over par 73 for his two-day total of 2-under par 142 (69-73). Eoff started the day off with a double-bogey on hole No. 1 and finished the afternoon with five birdies, four bogeys, a double bogey and eight pars.
Philippe Schweizer rounded out Purdue's scoring with a 1-over par 73 to sit in a tie for 69th at 6-over par 150 (77-73). Schweizer would be 1-under par after 11 holes, but back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 12 and 13 cost Schweizer his chance at an under-par round.
Freshman Fernando Barco is in a tie for 80th after rounds of 75-77=152 (+8). The final round will be contested tomorrow.
