SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The No.38-ranked Purdue men's golf team was in the thick of the chase for the team title with six holes to play, but struggled down the stretch to finish in fourth place of the 15-team Lone Star Invitational at Briggs Ranch Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon.

The Boilermakers entered the day nine shots off the lead, but quickly climbed to within three shots of eventual champion and 20th-ranked New Mexico after about 10 holes of play. The Boilermakers' five scoring players then played the final six holes in a combined 15-over par to fall back into fourth place with a 54-hole total of 1-over par 865 (292-280-293) on the challenging par-72 layout.

New Mexico won the event with a 16-under par 848, while 25th-ranked Baylor was second at 10-under par 854 (283-290-281). Southeastern Louisiana was third at 1-under par 863 (288-285-290).
