Boilers Use Strong Round Two To Surge Into Second at Lone Star Invite

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Purdue men's golf team pieced together the best 18-hole score of the tournament and finished the first day in second place of the Lone Star Invitational, hosted by the University of Texas-San Antonio at Briggs Ranch Golf Club.

The 28th-ranked Boilermakers finished 36 holes at 4-under par after recording rounds of 292 (+4) and 280 (-8) on the par-72 layout. Purdue was in a tie for sixth after the initial 18 holes, but surged to second after 36 holes, nine shots behind leader and 20th-ranked New Mexico.

Freshman Austin Eoff paced the Boilermakers on the first day, finishing 36 holes with a 4-under par 140 (68-72), good for seventh place. After playing the opening 18 holes in even par with three birdies and three bogeys, Eoff had a rollercoaster second round. After a bogey on No. 4, the freshman recorded an eagle-birdie on holes five and six, then added birdies on 11, 14 and 17 to finish his round 4-under par. His 68 was one off his career-best round.

Adam Schenk is in a tie for 10th at 2-under par after rounds of 1-under par 71. Schenk recorded nine birdies, but registered seven bogeys on the day to finish 2-under par. He was 4-under par through 16 holes of round two, but suffered a bogey-bogey finish to fall to 10th.

Sophomore Enzo Perez also had a whirlwind round and sits in a tie for 27th at 1-over par 145 (74-71). His second-round score of 71 featured an eagle, four birdies, five bogeys and eight pars.

Freshman Philippe Schweizer is tied with Perez in 27th place after rounds of 75-70=145 (+1). After playing his first 10 holes in 5-over par, Schweizer played the last 26 holes in 4-under par with seven birdies and three bogeys.

Freshman Fernando Barco wrapped up Purdue's scoring with rounds of 80-74=154 (+10).

Purdue will wrap up the Lone Star Invitational on Tuesday with the third and final round, beginning at 8:30 am (CT).
