RIO GRANDE, P.R. -- The Purdue men's golf team wrapped up play at the competitive Puerto Rico Classic today with an even-par 288 to finish the 54-hole event in a sixth-place tie at five-under par 859.
The tournament featured 15 teams, including 10 teams ranked in the nation's top 43. The Boilers finished behind No. 1-ranked Alabama (819; -45), No. 3 Georgia Tech (823; -41), No. 7 Georgia (835; -29), No. 42 Clemson (847; -17) and No. 9 Virginia Tech (855; -9). The Boilermakers tied with Michigan and No. 10 Oklahoma.
Purdue's round of 859 was the 12th-best 54-hole score in school history and the Boilers' head-to-head record is now 59-18-5 (.750).
Individually, the tournament featured 23 of the top 100-ranked players in America, including 11 of the top 50.
Adam Schenk recorded the second-lowest 54-hole score in school history with an 11-under par 205 to place in a third-place tie. He recorded just two holes of bogey or worse during the tournament and finished just one shot behind Clemson's Miller Capps and Alabama's Robby Shelton (-12; 204). The No. 95-ranked Schenk fired rounds of 66-68-71=205 to defeat 20 golfers ranked ahead of him.
Freshman Austin Eoff pieced together three consistent rounds to place in a tie for 38th at 2-over par 218. Eoff fired rounds of 73-73-72 to record a counting round all three days.
A pair of freshmen, Philippe Schweizer and Fernando Barco, finished in a tie for 52nd at 6-over par 222. Both players overcame shaky second rounds with improvement in the third round to just miss out on a top-50 finish. Schweizer recorded rounds of 71-77-74=222, while Barco went 71-80-71=222.
Enzo Perez rounded out Purdue's contingent with a tie for 57th finish and a 74-72-77=223.
Purdue will compete next Sunday through Tuesday at the USF Invitational at Dade City, Fla.
