FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - No. 24 Oklahoma dealt the 30th-ranked Purdue women's tennis team is second straight loss as the Boilermakers suffered a 6-1 setback Saturday at the George M. Billingsley Tennis Center. Purdue, now 3-3, 0-0 Big Ten, will have a chance to rebound Sunday against No. 44 Arkansas at 12 p.m.
The Boilermakers dropped the doubles point, falling at the Nos. 1 and 3 spots. In a battle of ranked tandems, the Sooner duo of Whitney Ritchie and Mia Lancaster, ranked 31st nationally, defeated the No. 51 duo of Mara Schmidt and Krisztina Kaptiany, 8-5. At No. 3, Nicole Robinson and Claudia Escribens dropped an 8-6 decision to Zita Engbroks and Hermon Brhane.
Daniela Vidal was credited with the lone victory for Purdue. Playing at the No. 2 spot, the junior took the first set from Hermon Brhane, 6-3, and prevailed in the breaker, 7-6 (5), for her ninth win of the season.
Two of the Boilermaker's losses came in the third set or breaker. At No. 3, Oklahoma's Mia Lancaster defeated Nicole Robinson 6-3, 7-6 (2). Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum rallied from a 6-3 first set loss to Morgan Chumney, for a 6-3 win in the second, but fell in the third set, 6-3. Purdue fell in straight sets at Nos. 1, 5 and 6.
