ASHLAND, Ohio - The No. 22 Purdue wrestling team powered past Northern Illinois and Ashland at the Wendy's Duals hosted by Ashland in Kates Gymnasium Sunday. The Boilermakers won 17 of 20 contested bouts, 11 of which resulted in bonus points, en route to a 26-11 win over Northern Illinois, followed by a 48-0 blanking of Ashland to improve to 5-4, 0-4 Big Ten.

The 48-0 shutout of the Eagles is the first shutout since the Boilermakers blanked Iowa Western on 42-(-1) on Dec. 16, 2012. It also marked the first time they've scored over 40 points since that 42-(-1) win.

Purdue grapplers tallied six pins, three major decisions and a technical fall and received a forfeit in Sunday's action. Double bonus point winners included 174-pounder Patrick Kissel and No. 13/15 Braden Atwood at 197.

Kissel picked up the first major decision of his redshirt junior campaign by downing Northern Illinois' Matt Mougin, 11-1. The Sheboygan, Wis., native used three takedowns, a reversal and a two-point nearfall in the victory. He built a 9-2 lead on Luke Cramer of Ashland through the first and part of the second periods before recording his third pin of the season at 3:21 to move his record to 10-9. Kissel now has eight majors and eight falls in his career.

Atwood moved into a four-way tie for 11th on the Purdue's all-time falls list by sticking both of his opponents, pushing his career total to 22. Both falls came in the first period, needing just 2:18 to put Shawn Scott of Northern Illinois on his back and 59 seconds to pin Ashland's Ray Canale. Two of the seven falls during his redshirt junior season have come in under a minute. Atwood, who hails from Delphi, Ind., now owns a mark of 19-6.

The third Boilermaker to win by fall was 149-pounder Brandon Nelsen, who pinned Ashland's J.J. Diven in 5:17. Nelsen moved into the top 10 on the career falls list with his 23rd pin, good for a three-way tie at No. 9. The 12-9 redshirt junior also won by decision over Austin Culton of Northern Illinois, 4-2. Tanner Lynde (6-8) also won by fall at 184 pounds with a first-period pin of Ashland's Tyler Gross (1:52).

Joining Kissel as winners by major decision were Cashé Quiroga (10-3) and Patrick Robinson (5-6). Quiroga, who is ranked at No. 13/14 at 133 pounds, cruised to his third major in his final season by downing Nick Smith of Northern Illinois, 14-5. With his nine takedowns Sunday, the Indianapolis, Ind., native moved into the No. 5 spot on the career takedowns list with 345. At 165 pounds, Robinson made easy work of Zebulan Beam of Ashland, 15-4, for the second major of his redshirt junior campaign.

Registering the technical fall for Purdue was Danny Sabatello at 141 pounds to push his record to 16-8. The redshirt sophomore took Ashland's Bobby Mason down six times and got him tilted for a two- and three-point nearfall, needing just five minutes to get the tech at 19-4. It was the first tech fall of the season for Sabatello and the fifth of his career.

After spending the past two months on the road away from their fans and home mat, the Boilermakers will return home for a Big Ten dual with No. 8 Nebraska (8-1, 2-1 Big Ten) at 1 p.m. on Jan. 26 in Holloway Gymnasium. The Huskers will come to West Lafayette after taking on Ohio State in Columbus on Jan. 24. The dual will be carried by the Big Ten Digital Network.
